Beyond the Rainbow Charitable

1996 saw the establishment of the "Beyond The Rainbow Charitable Foundation." It was created as a result of Diane D'Apolito-May. In 1994, Diane, at 35, was a contented mother of four sons, including a newborn. When Diane had a major brain stem stroke in November, her life and the lives of her family were abruptly and drastically changed. She was physically unable to speak or move after the stroke, but her cerebral faculties were unaffected.

In the months that followed, Diane faced many challenges, such as figuring out how to breathe without a ventilator and communicating by blinking her eyes repeatedly. Diane met many other families who were also struggling with a severe disease while she fought to restore her physical abilities. At this stage of her rehabilitation, Diane made the decision to create a foundation out of the funds raised in her honor to aid many more people. The "Beyond the Rainbow Foundation" was founded at the grassroots level and is currently making an effort to grow.

The Board of Directors and officers are committed to assisting this fledgling organization in development so that it can offer financial support to families who have experienced catastrophic illness or injury. While there are numerous foundations devoted to long-term research and medical aid, there are significantly fewer devoted to the emotional and monetary help a family may require on a daily basis.
